HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) has published an updated version of the Circuit Commercial (Mercantile) Court guide, for the Circuit Commercial Courts (formerly known as the Mercantile Courts). The Circuit Commercial Courts form part of the recently launched Business and Property Courts of England and Wales. The Commercial Court guide (incorporating The Admiralty Court Guide) supplements the Circuit Commercial (Mercantile) Court guide.
Amendments to the Circuit Commercial (Mercantile) Court guide include changes to or additions dealing with: CE-filing, the shorter and flexible trials schemes, case management conferences (CMCs), costs management schemes, costs management orders (CMOs), compliance with court orders, disclosure, witness statements, witness summaries, expert evidence and litigants in person.
The Circuit Commercial (Mercantile) Court Guide was last updated in 2012 so the amendments are largely to bring the guide up to date with various changes to the CPR and practice directions which have come into force since then, including the Jackson civil litigation reforms which came into force on 1 April 2013.
